Video: Teachers and students show us the tools of the Cooperative Learning method implemented in the Brains Schools.

Cooperative Learning aims to incorporate operating models based on brain processes and individual student learning styles into the classroom.”

Cooperative Learning

Let’s make our dreams reality!

Cooperative Learning aims to create situations in class where teachers encourage cooperation between their pupils.

The teacher creates strategies which take the place of rules, strategies which we will call structures. When used, these structures must have an impact on the way students participate and interact, how they relate to each other and how much they learn. We do not mean to say this is the best solution for education but it aims to apply the contributions of brain science to the classroom.

Structures become very useful strategies for the teacher; they show immediate impact upon academic results, especially in the development of social-emotional skills. These strategies aim to stimulate the teacher, enabling an efficient control of the classroom, saving energy while doing so. In cooperative learning, activities are designed to create team spirit so as to gain the best performance from the pupil.

Cooperative Learning introduces models based on brain processes and the style of learning our pupils possess. It is of vital importance to encourage the development of multiple intelligences, especially emotional intelligence which will allow students to understand their behaviour in class as leaders as well as members of a team.

Approximately 15 years ago, a high intelligence quotient was considered the road to success but studies have shown that the key factor is emotional intelligence. Aptitudes and qualities such as self-knowledge, self-control, confidence, commitment, integrity and efficient communication are the key to reaching not only success but also happiness.

Developing social skills is also included in cooperative learning. These skills define relationships and give us the capacity to empathise with others. They also show us how to listen and offer clear and convincing messages, as well as share leadership roles.

Collaboration and cooperation whilst working as a team generates group synergy which leads to reaching shared goals.
