English

The second language plays an important part in Brains School philosophy, starting from Reception all the way to University admission.

English studies are not restricted to the language itself, we also attempt to introduce students to the English-speaking world, its society and culture. Most of all, we want to assure that while pupils develop their knowledge they also put it to use during their academic day. Therefore, we use English to teach other subjects, whilst maintaining the high academic level of Spanish.

Our students use English and Spanish equally and, from an early age, it is a pleasure for us to see how they demonstrate their command of both languages in the most natural and spontaneous way.

From just 3 years of age our students are taught using the British Model, 100% in English with native teachers.

During Reception, our pupils learn how to read in English and in Year 1 they can read and write in this language. Conversation classes in English are carried out in groups of 10 to 13 children.

In Year 1 students master reading and writing in both languagues and are perfectly prepared for the transition to the Bilingual Method in Primary.

In Secondary students continue to perfect their knowledge of English and will sit First Certificate and Advanced exams, Certificates of English from Cambridge University. In Baccalaureate they will have the opportunity to complete their studies totally in English.

At this time, we are in the process of implementing this type of Baccalaureate. In fact, Brains School has achieved the category of Candidate School, in order to offer International Baccalaureate (IB).

Our Methodology
  • > Native and bilingual teachers carefully selected in England and Ireland with optimum qualifications (Eg: Bachelor of Education or Post-graduate Certificate in Education in the U.K.) and relevant experience teaching their corresponding age groups. These professionals also take part in a specialization and recycling programme which is given at the school and supervised by the DIP (Department of Investigation and Pedagogy).
  • > The materials used are the most efficient in language teaching and the introduction of New Technologies (ICTs) has improved our students’ capacity of learning English considerably. We follow our students’ progress by using interactive systems combined with individual tutoring and conversation classes in small groups where each child is able to advance at their own pace.
  • From Year 2, our pupils have the opportunity to take external exams organized by the University of Cambridge. We are proud to say that 90% of our pupils successfully pass these exams with good marks. The exams take place at our school in La Moraleja.

Starting the 6th year of Primary School, we work on a third language, to be chosen from French or German, following the same line as English. Consequently, during Secondary and Baccalaureate, the time spent on languages will be distributed between English and the language chosen by the student.
